All Las Vegas Aces Players Secure $100K Sponsorships

The WNBA has launched an investigation into the $100,000 bonus payments made to each player on the Las Vegas Aces team, provided by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. This unique opportunity was presented to the players by the authority’s president and CEO, Steve Hill, with no requirements beyond playing basketball. The LVCVA worked with each player’s agent to structure the deals similarly to Name, Image, and Likeness deals seen in college sports.

This sponsorship does not violate the WNBA’s salary cap rules, as it was not orchestrated with the club. However, other teams may question the fairness and spirit of the salary cap rules in light of this sponsorship. The Aces, who have been successful in recent seasons and sold out 15 of their 20 regular-season home games, may have an advantage in attracting free agents with this sponsorship deal.

The Aces’ success on the court includes back-to-back WNBA titles and a strong start to the current season. Last year, the team faced penalties for violations involving impermissible player benefits and workplace policies. The Aces recently defeated the Phoenix Mercury and the Los Angeles Sparks in their latest games.

The WNBA’s investigation into the bonus payments to the Las Vegas Aces players has garnered attention and raised questions about the impact on league rules and fairness among teams. The Aces’ success, both on and off the court, has solidified their position as a top team in the league. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the investigation progresses.
