One of the largest Planet Fitness franchisee partners has made a significant acquisition in California.

Grand Fitness Partners announced that it has acquired 10 clubs in the Golden State while expanding its footprint to 90 locations nationally.

The acquisition includes two clubs in Southern California (Ontario and San Bernardino) from Ontario Fitness, LLC, and eight clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area from Planet Fitness’ corporate club portfolio. The financial terms of acquisition, finalized last month, were not revealed. Grand Fitness Partners is based in Toms River, New Jersey.

Grand Fitness Partners said that by expanding into the markets, the franchisee is “advancing its long-term growth strategy, positioning the company for sustained success while building consistency and scale.”

“Our members are at the center of everything we do,” said Wayne Orvis, CEO of Grand Fitness Partners. “As a proud Planet Fitness franchisee, we’re excited to welcome these new clubs and teams into the Grand Fitness family. As we grow, we remain focused on creating welcoming spaces where people can feel confident, supported, and motivated to reach their fitness goals.”

The other clubs included in the deal include Fremont, East Oakland, Oakland, Oakland MacArthur, Richmond, San Pablo, Vallejo, and Walnut Creek. Each club will continue offering the Planet Fitness “Judgement Free Zone,” while delivering “high quality fitness at an affordable price,” according to Grand Fitness Partners.

As of June 30, Planet Fitness had approximately 20.8 million members and 2,762 clubs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama, Mexico, Australia and Spain.

“Grand Fitness Partners has been a strong franchise partner, and its growth reflects the power of our brand and strength of our franchise system,” said Colleen Keating, CEO of Planet Fitness. “This transaction aligns with our commitment to recycling capital where appropriate and advancing our asset-light model and also allows us to focus our resources on our East Coast corporate-owned clubs.”

Planet Fitness was founded in 1992 in Dover, New Hampshire. More than 90% of Planet Fitness clubs are owned and operated by independent business men and women, the company said.
