OPUA LLC, a Gen Z-focused health communications and behavioral change agency, has been awarded a $10,000 grant and a full year of mentorship through the BOSS Business University. The grant aims to help OPUA expand its capacity to promote future health now. Founded by Shavonne Reed, OPUA started as a side hustle in 2005 while Reed was a graduate student and expectant mother. Reed’s passion for promoting health and wellness was ignited by the mental health crisis of the pandemic and the loss of her mother.
As a mother of two Zoomers, Reed understands the importance of peer influence in shaping behaviors during adolescence. She is committed to leveraging technology and platforms to create positive change, especially in marginalized communities. OPUA’s focus is on educating, mobilizing, and empowering Gen Z to develop healthy lifestyles through awareness. The agency builds brands, campaigns, and capacity to promote healthy futures for future generations.
The BOSS Network, an online community founded by Dr. Cameka Smith, is dedicated to supporting professional and entrepreneurial women of color. Through digital content, programs, and networking events, The BOSS Network aims to promote the small business spirit and career development of women of color. In 2022, The BOSS Network launched the BOSS Impact Fund, which focuses on investing in Black women-led businesses and preparing these entrepreneurs to build scalable, growth-aggressive companies.
OPUA’s partnership with The BOSS Network and the BOSS Business University will provide valuable resources and support for OPUA’s mission to promote future health now. With a focus on breaking generational curses and promoting wellbeing, OPUA is committed to making a positive impact on the health and wellness of future generations.
