KIIT Deemed to be University (KIIT-DU) in Bhubaneswar is celebrating a historic achievement as twelve of its students have qualified for the Paris Olympic Games 2024, which will commence on July 26. This makes KIIT-DU the first university in India to send the largest contingent of athletes to the prestigious event.
In recognition of their hard work and dedication, KIIT and KISS Founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta announced a grant of Rs 7 lakhs to each of the qualifying athletes. This generous gesture aims to motivate the athletes to give their best performance on the field and bring glory to the nation.
The list of talented athletes representing KIIT-DU at the Paris Olympics includes names like Amit Rohidas in men’s hockey, Parul Chaudhary in 3000m and 5000m steeplechase, and Tajinderpal Singh Toor in shot put, among others. These twelve athletes are currently undergoing training in various European countries and participated in the program virtually. Prof. Samanta highlighted that KIIT & KISS has a strong track record of producing Olympians, with 20 athletes representing India at previous Olympic Games. Additionally, the institutions have a total of seven Arjuna Award winners, further showcasing their commitment to sports excellence.
