Refugees Eager to Work with Samaritas Workforce Programs

World Refugee Awareness Day is fast approaching, and Samaritas is celebrating by highlighting the significant economic contributions of refugees to Michigan. According to Samaritas, refugees contribute a whopping $295 million annually to Michigan’s economy, showcasing their invaluable skills and work ethic.

In honor of World Refugee Day, Samaritas is calling on Michigan companies to partner with them in recruiting well-trained refugee candidates who are eager to succeed. Samaritas has launched a new talent recruitment portal to facilitate this partnership and make it easier for companies to connect with potential employees.

Anida Sabanovic, Vice President of Comerica and Chair of the Samaritas 90th Anniversary Ripples Gala, shared her inspiring journey to America, highlighting her resilience and dedication to giving back to the refugee community. Mihaela Mitrofan, Director of Samaritas New Americans, emphasized the positive impact refugees have on Michigan’s culture and economy, bringing innovation, diversity, and an entrepreneurial spirit to the state.

Research from Michigan’s League for Public Policy reveals that for every 1,000 newly arrived immigrant workers, the projected increase in local and state tax revenue in the first year is approximately $1.6 million, eventually rising to $2.5 million after five years. These statistics underscore the importance of supporting refugee integration into Michigan’s workforce.

Samaritas, as Michigan’s premier refugee resettlement agency, offers a range of programs to help refugees seamlessly integrate into the workforce, equipping them with in-demand skills for immediate employment. By partnering with employers like Northgate Construction and Amplitude Staffing, Samaritas ensures that refugee clients receive the training and support needed to thrive in their new work environments.

Joyce Sanders of Northgate Construction praises Samaritas for their effective training programs and streamlined processes, noting that refugee clients are hardworking and reliable additions to their team. Samaritas is actively seeking additional partners to provide opportunities for refugees to achieve independence and contribute to the economic growth of Michigan.

If you are interested in supporting refugees and helping them rebuild their lives, consider fostering, mentoring, or donating to Samaritas through their website at Samaritas.org/newamericans. Together, we can create a more inclusive and prosperous Michigan for all.
