Atari’s Infogrames label has recently acquired the popular Surgeon Simulator series from TinyBuild. This move is part of Infogrames’ strategy to focus on games outside of their core portfolio of IP, which includes the recently acquired Totally Reliable Delivery Service from TinyBuild as well.
Surgeon Simulator, developed by Bossa Studios, is a comedy medical operation simulator that has gained popularity since its original release in 2013. The franchise includes various titles such as Surgeon Simulator VR: Meet the Medic, Surgeon Simulator CPR, and Surgeon Simulator 2: Access All Areas.
Infogrames plans to expand the distribution of these games, explore merchandising opportunities, and potentially develop new titles within the Surgeon Simulator franchise. Infogrames’ manager, Geoffroy Châteauvieux, expressed excitement about the acquisition, highlighting Surgeon Simulator’s timeless appeal.
Founded in 1983 in Paris, Infogrames experienced significant growth through the 1990s and early 2000s through various acquisitions. The company rebranded as Atari in 2003 but faced challenges leading to losses, cuts, and closures. The current Atari leadership has since focused on the retro games market and acquired remaster and remake specialists like Digital Eclipse and Nightdive Studios. Additionally, they have acquired numerous IP catalogues, including titles from IntellivisonM Network Games and Stern Electronics.
The acquisition of Surgeon Simulator by Infogrames marks a significant addition to their portfolio, showcasing their commitment to expanding their game offerings beyond their core IP.
