In a sensational celebration of art, Emirati culture and the diverse creative spirit of Dubai, Dhai Dubai, the inaugural Emirati-led light art festival, has opened its doors at Expo City Dubai. Inspired by the heritage of Dubai, the 10-day festival runs from January 26th to February 4th and promises stunning art displays, interactive installations, and engaging workshops.
The festival’s opening was graced by Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the Arts Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, Amna Abulhoul, Executive Creative Director at Expo City Dubai, and Anthony Bastic AM, CEO & Executive Creative Director at AGB Creative, attended the launch alongside local and international media. The festival art installations feature works by seven renowned Emirati artists, including Mattar Bin Lahej, Dr. Najat Makki, Dr. Mohamed Yousef, Abdullah Almulla, Maitha Hamdan, Khalid Al Shafar, and Reem Al Ghaith.
The festival’s iconic location at Al Wasl Plaza features a special projection show titled Sisters of the Desert, inspired by the remarkable art of the late Emirati artist, Dhabia Juma Lamlah. The festival has also partnered with Liter of Light to distribute high-quality solar lighting to underserved areas. Visitors will also have the chance to participate in a variety of activities such as the Speed of Light skate park, people-powered activities, and interactive art installations.
Dr. Saeed Mubarak Kharbash Al Marri, Chief Executive Officer – Arts & Literature at Dubai Culture & Arts Authority lauded the festival, saying, “The inaugural Dhai Dubai light art festival is a welcome addition to Dubai’s expanding creative economy. The festival also features installations, talks, and creative workshops for families and children, with activities such as light art workshops and wearable art workshops.
