Mikell Reed Carroll, a 46-year-old wife and mom from Arlington, VA, is set to compete for the Miss Virginia USA crown after the age restrictions were lifted by the Miss Universe Organization. Mikell, who recently underwent groundbreaking hip surgery due to Avascular Necrosis, sees this as an opportunity to reclaim her passion for pageant competitions.
Diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis while living abroad in Serbia, Mikell was told that she would need surgery to prevent joint collapse. After extensive research, she found a doctor at Yale who had developed a new surgery combining core decompression with stem cells and bone graft. Mikell underwent two successful surgeries and is now preparing for the Miss Virginia USA pageant in June 2024.
Mikell’s resilience and determination to overcome her health challenges have inspired her to return to the pageant stage. With over 26 years of experience in the industry, Mikell has found personal growth and lifelong friendships through pageants.
