2024 Champion of Change: Colton Joint Unified School District by Think Together

Think Together, California’s leading nonprofit provider of afterschool and school improvement programs, has partnered with Colton Joint Unified School District since 2010, supporting 22 elementary and middle school students in the district. Recently, Think Together recognized Colton Joint Unified with its Champion of Change Award at a board meeting on May 2.

Through this partnership, Think Together has been offering after school and expanded learning programs to students free of charge, serving more than 3,500 students this year. The programs cover TK-Kindergarten, traditional afterschool programs, and non-instructional day sessions for summer, winter, and spring breaks.

By leveraging various funding sources such as ELOP grants and ASES funding, Colton Joint Unified was able to eliminate waitlists for afterschool programs and serve between 150-200 students daily at each of its 22 schools. The district has also integrated community partners into Think Together’s programs, providing opportunities for students to engage in music, theater, and competitive sports.

At the award ceremony, Randy Barth, the founder, and CEO of Think Together, praised Colton Joint Unified for its innovative approach to scaling academic and enrichment programs, allowing more students to pursue their greatness. Rhonda Scott, Think Together’s General Manager for the San Bernardino Northeast region, commended Colton for ensuring that every student and staff member has the support they need.

Colton Joint Unified Superintendent Dr. Frank Miranda expressed his joy and gratitude for the impact Think Together has had on the community, providing students with safe and enriching opportunities to learn and grow. The district remains committed to offering these programs as part of its ongoing efforts to support student success.

Think Together’s dedication to partnering with schools to change the odds for kids has positively impacted over 200,000 students in more than 675 schools. Through their early learning, afterschool, school support services, and leadership development programs, Think Together is working towards a future where every student graduates with all life options available to them.
